After the make -f MakeCabbageIDE I'm guessing I have a patchwork Cabbage (since the recent build didn't take) that so far works well, without porking down all the system memory.

All you're missing are the plugins which I don't think you use anyway? If you do all your work within Cabbage and not in Ardour, Bigwig, etc, then you should be fine.
Yes, using Cabbage only as a wonderful playback editor. Intend to send pitches in via ethernet network, let other computer juggle the midi stuff while csound just sounds.
