I’ve been answering a lot of queries about using Csound in games lately, so I thought I would direct future questions here so we keep a record of the discussions. For those of you who don’t know, it quite simple to use Csound in either Unity or UE4. You can use Csound directly in Unity using CsoundUnity, or you can create FMOD plugins so that Csound can be used with FMOD in both Unity and UE4.

Both CsoundUnity and CsoundFMOD use the same channel based mechanism for communication with Csound as Cabbage does. Therefore the instruments are interchangeable. Both CsoundUnity and CsoundFMOD will translate your Cabbage interfaces into native interfaces that can be accessed in either Unity or FMOD. This makes it very easy to use one of Iain’s physical modeling instruments in a game. I’ve already used his electricity instruments in some scenes. It works great.

Maybe we can convince Iain to do some more of these sound “design type” instruments!
