Scores

i was thinking about creating Score Generators for Reaper, and i wanted to check with you @Rory if you think this would be possible with Cabbage plugins.

For example, there is Cmask and nGen, both C programs. Using the system_i opcode one can launch those programs and generate scores. How to get them back is yet another issue.
I would like to get these notes (the 5 pfields) back into Reaper and see them printed…crazy i know…

For AthenaCL, i think i can adapt CsoundAC from Michael, and i know, there the generated score is printed as notes in Reaper. Or perhaps using the python opcodes (AthenaCL is in Python) in a Cabbage VST or Clap?

Do you have thoughts on this?
If so, would you like to share them here?

Hmm, I’m not sure. I do know that some hosts will block system calls from a plugin due to it being an absolutely security treat, but I don’t know about Reaper. I think generating the scores is doable, but I’m also not sure how you would get them back, without having to manually open them in Reaper?

Reaper has its own scripting language though. At the last Csound conference @cordelia from the Csound discord server showed some pretty amazing hacks. He was triggering Csound to run through Reaper by hooking up Reaper scripts to the Csound API. Maybe this could be an approach?

The fun part would be to get the scores back on the Reaper and show as notes in the right tempo.
Right now i can run nGen as it has the option of exporting a midi file. And i would love to have something like JMask from Blue as a Cabbage plugin.

I will get in touch with @cordelia - thanks for your thoughts on this.
