Hi Rory, sorry my first post is a slug. Overjoyed to see Audiounits development afoot but I’m getting validation problems in Logic X. Otherwise - great work, I’m so glad I finally immersed in Csound, Cabbage promises that the uphill struggle will be completely worth it. Hero.

Thanks for the report, I’ll take a look. Unfortunately I don’t have a copy of Logic to test with. Out of curiosity, do they load with Garage band?

I don’t have Garageband here and it’s no longer a freebie. I do have Ableton 9.5 though - they aren’t loading as AU’s there either:

Ok, I also have Live, so I can try there too. I didn’t realise that Garageband was no longer a freebie. It was nice to have at least on Apple product to test AUs in. The AU validation tool seems a little hit and miss. I’ve had plugins fail in the past that loaded just fine, and plugins that won’t load in a host that passed AUVal without an issue.

Just a follow up on this. I am able to run the AUs in Live, but they are not behaving as they should. There is a lot of distortion happening. I also asked a friend to try the latest release out with Logic. He was able to run them , but again, they had problems with the audio. I’ll take a look after lunch. Btw, are you using the latest release? Either from cabbageaudio.com, or from the sticky on this forum about latest beta packages?

[EDIT] Now that I have cleaned my AU cache I am getting the same problem as you. I’m looking into it.

[EDIT] Still looking into this. AU effects seems to work again now, but I’m having issues with synths…

Can you try these two AU plugins(links below). Just replace the two older Cabbage plugins from your Library/Audio Plugins folder with these ones. You should already have a CabbageAudioUnit folder in your Music directory. The Cabbage installer should have put it there. They work for fine for me now in Garageband and Live.

Thanks for that Rory - Dropbox seems to have mangled the file somehow. Adding extension .component doesn’t resolve that the two files turn up unusual attributes:

I can chmod 755 to get the permissions to mirror but it doesn’t address that .component files are usually OSX packaged directories (leading d attribute) - it’s why I’m assuming they got a a bit fubar by Dropbox.

EDIT: Sorry, just to clarify, this is what the files look like in initial download state, not doctored version, In either state (like this or with the correct suffix and permissions) they aren’t recognised by any AU host of mine - either in /Users/* components subdirectory or the system wide /Library subdirectory (*Audio/Plug-ins/Components).

Trying to be as a clear as poss. lol.

Okay, latest update: still failing in both Logic and Live here. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but these are 64bit plugins right?

Those results look odd. Are you sure there aren’t duplicate .components lying around? It seems to find CabbageSynth, and then later CabbageAUSynth. It also doesn’t seem to find CabbageAUEffect at all? I use a program called Onyx(http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx) to clean my AU caches and other little OSX oddities. There may be older version of the plugins cached somewhere. Note that it’s quicker if, when using Onyx, you don’t verify disk on startup. And you only choose to clean User settings. No need for a restart if you just clean User settings.

Btw, I always place those Cabbage AUs in my Username/Library folder rather than the system wide one. I’m not sure it makes any difference. But that is also where the installer tries to place them. Is this also where you have them?

Latest update :wink: Can you try this one:

It only contains one plugin, the AUEffect one. Again, you should remove ALL other copies of any Cabbage AUs from your machine before installing this one. I built this one using the 10.9 SDK. I do the same with the regular build of Cabbage, so hopefully it helps here too. The resulting AU works fine for me with Live and Garageband.

Hi Rory,sorry I kind of dropped out of the loop yesterday, two days of lectures took over.
This passes validation. I’ll post the log minus the whitespace at the end.

I have it up on regular audio tracks now, for a moment I had Stria coming out of a busy mix of electro nonsense I was working on, which was weird but exciting.

From a blank session I’m getting zero noise, and Stria crashes the whole thing, which I kind of guessed would happen given it’s a big score driven thing.

I’m about for the rest of the week if you want to crack it.

Great. So we can try the synth now and see if that works. I’ll run you off a copy later this afternoon. We you trying to reply via your email address by any chance? That’s no good, posts have to come through the website until I find time to update our Discourse package. Btw, the best thing to do with long outputs like that is paste them into a txt file and attach that. It’s cleaner. He’s the synth. You may need to clean your caches out again.

BTW, running native Csound files in Cabbage may present some issues as they are all score driven, and not really set up for real time. You will also need to remove and -odac and -iadc from the Csound options. Otherwise Csound and Cabbage will try to output audio. We only want Cabbage outputting audio in this case.

Cheers. I’m entirely new to the Cabbage way of doing things so I’ll have to have a good sit down and adapt some of my stuff when I get to grips.

Hello.

Tried the last beta (1.02) in both Live and Numerology, and none of the AUs are working. Fail to load as described above in this thread.

Great work with cabbage, though!

Balls :frowning: I tested them on my own machine yesterday and they both worked fine for me. I don’t suppose you could run “auval -a” the command line and copy and paste the output into a text file and post it here? Are you sure that you have no other Cabbage AU plugins in another other locations. I think at this point I may remove the AudioUnit plugins from the main installer until they have been thoroughly tested and known to work. I’ve heard many conflicting reports about them working and not working.

I checked and found no conflicting AUs.

Csound as an AU should be pretty cool! Has it been done successfully before? I remember Matt Ingalls had an AU-thing going on, but It’s been a few years and I can’t remember if I ever got it to work. Long time ago, I think I got I got an orchestra going in Max/MSP, via their Pluggo-system, - but I’m not sure.

If there are no fails in the AU test I can’t see what the problem is. Do they show Ok? What happens exactly when you try to run them? Can you also check to see what version of Csound you have installed. Did you install a version alongside Cabbage, or during the installation of Cabbage? , and others, have been able to get it running. But it’s still early doors.
